A resident of our company’s apartment complex has passed. Through the years many of the staff and their families grew quite fond of her. Many staff are attending the wake services but are unable to attend the actual funeral services due to open business hours. The deceased’s son has extended an invitation to the staff attend the funeral luncheon. Would it be inappropriate to attend the luncheon and not the actual funeral services?
Since the son invited you all to the luncheon then it is appropriate to go. It is not uncommon these days to be able to attend only one of the funeral events, and I think it is special that you will able to honor the deceased by attending the luncheon.
