Houston’s National Museum of Funeral History will hold a birthday bash for one of our most storied president’s on Sunday, February 15, 2015. The birthday party for Abraham Lincoln will take place through out the day. In addition to a special presentation on “Planning a Presidental Funeral” at 2pm, birthday cake and punch will be served throughout the day.
Don’t want to pay the admission fee? Come dressed as Honest Abe or his wife, Mary, and you’ll be offered free admission. In fact, anyone dressed in 1800s/Civil War era costumes will be admitted at no charge.
The Lincoln Birthday Bash is a continuation of the museum’s efforts over the past several months to pay tribute to our 16th President as we lead up to the 150th anniversaries of both his funeral in April and May and the end of the Civil War.
Visitors to the museum will learn more about the history of Lincoln’s birth and life in a special section of the museum’s Presidential Funerals exhibit, which includes a full scale re-creation of President Lincoln lying in repose, an authentic mourning badge worn by a guest at his funeral in 1865, an exact replica of the Derringer pistol used by John Wilkes Booth in the president’s assassination, a replica of the uniform worn by the Invalid Corps of the Civil War, and a model depicting the journey of the Lincoln funeral procession across the country to Springfield, Illinois for his burial service.
