A photo of a service person participating in the annual Flags-In ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery was chosen as the Grand Prize Winner of the Funeralwise.com 2016 Capture
Memorial Day Photo Contest. The photo, “Flags-In, Memorial Day,” submitted by Amber Knickman of Morrisville, PA, was by far the fan favorite receiving the top number of votes.
Both professional and amateur photographers were invited to participate in the contest. Entries were required to be taken in a United States’ cemetery and convey the meaning and emotion associated with Memorial Day. Evaluating the entries on the basis of creativity, photo quality, and emotion, a panel of judges selected fifteen (15) finalists from the pool of photos that were submitted. The general public was then invited to vote for their favorites among the finalists.
According to Funeralwise.com Managing Director, Rick Paskin, “We are honored to sponsor a contest that pays tribute to those who have fallen in service to our country. By highlighting the way we pay tribute to those we have lost, we keep our heroes front and center in our minds. The winning photo certainly embodies our goals for the contest. All of the photos that were submitted were moving and respectful and we are pleased to highlight them on our website.”
