Rod Taylor, the handsome leading man best known for his roles in “The Time Machine,” “The Birds,” and most recently, “Inglorious Basterds,” died at his Los Angeles home on Wednesday, January 7th, 2014, of a heart attack. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 35 years, and his daughter Felicia.
Taylor was born in Sydney, Australia, and worked his way up from supporting parts to become a marquee name. He made frequent television appearances and film work.
[Taylor] appeared in more than 50 Hollywood films throughout his career, from The Time Machine and The Train Robbers to The Catered Affair. More recently, he voiced Pongo in Disney’s family-favorite 101 Dalmatians and played Winston Churchill in Inglourious Basterds.
But his most iconic role was that of Mitch Brenner in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 classic The Birds, opposite Tippi Hedren.
“There are so many incredible feelings I have for him. Rod was a great pal to me and a real strength, we were very, very good friends,” Hedren, 84, said in a statement. “He was one of the most fun people I have ever met, thoughtful and classy, there was everything good in that man.”

An actor is especially known for their best role and for Rod Taylor it was the Time Machine because it showed how a man can transcend the evil and worst of a human being and bring hope to those who need it most.
He brought both pathos and courage to his characterization of the time traveler in a way that made it both poignant, realistic, and inspirational.
I hope the details of the funeral service will be revealed because it would give some closure to all of us lauded his role in the Time Machine.
His performance in that movie, above all the others, should make his family, agent and colleagues very proud.
My 10 year old son was very saddened by his passing…I had met him a few decades ago and wanted to introduce him to him.
Is there any possible way you can send me the funeral service information so I can take him? I’m at attorneyMPeters@gmail.com.
