Acclaimed for his work on the small screen, in film, and on the stage, Emmy and Tony winning actor Edward Herrmann died on Wednesday, December 31st after a battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his wife, Star, and three children.
“Besides being an accomplished actor, [he] was also a true gentleman and a scholar, as well as being an incredibly kind and decent man,” Robbie Kass, his manager, said in an emailed statement. “He will be sorely missed.”
Actress Lauren Graham, who played Herrmann’s daughter on Gilmore Girls, called his death “a devastating blow.”

In addition to his acting performances, Herrmann was a prolific voice artist who narrated many programs for PBS and The History Channel as well as television commercials and audio books.
Herrmann was perhaps most recognized for his Emmy winning role as Franklin D. Roosevelt in two classic TV movies and his long-running role as the father in the TV show The Gilmore Girls.
